Chris and Jordan at DPReview TV tested three entry-level APS-C mirrorless models: Canon EOS M50 (B&H/ Adorama), Sony A6000, and Fujifilm X-T100 (Amazon/ B&H/ Adorama). So, which one is the best for a beginner?
Below are the comparison in 6 categories conclusions.
- Handling, Design and Aesthetics
- Fujifilm X-T100: Looks good, feels good. Triple control dials
- Canon EOS M50: Feels more plasticky compared to X-T100. Best swivel and touch screen
- Sony A6000: Low resolution Viewfinder. Bad menu. No touch screen
- Autofocus (all work great in AF-S, focus in the review on AF-C)
- Canon EOS M50: Dual pixel hybrid AF smooth in stills and video
- Sony A6000: Decent job in tracking
- Fujifilm X-T100: AF-C is slow and hunts
- Image Quality
- Fujifilm X-T100: Excellent color science. Great low light performance. Film simulations are fun and usable
- Canon EOS M50: Fantastic JPEGs. The only reason it comes after the X-T100 is that its extra profiles aren’t as effective or as fun to use as the X-T100
- Sony A6000: Colors can look strange. Not good saturation. Skin tones not pleasing
- Lens Lineup
- Fujifilm X-T100: Largest selection of high quality specific APS-C lenses
- Sony A6000: Lots of third-party manufacturers lens offers plus Sony FF glass can be used on it since it shares the same mount
- Canon EOS M50: Nice range of lenses for the beginners. No third-party lens support
- Price
- Video
- Canon EOS M50: Fully articulating screen, standard 3.5mm microphone jack and excellent dual pixel AF
- Sony A6000: best 1080 of the bunch. No articulating screen
- Fujifilm X-T100: 2.5mm mic jack. Video looks bad
- Overall
